Textract OCR Support
Get help with Textract OCR for macOS. Most capture and recognition problems can be resolved from Permissions or Recognition settings.
Email support@textractocr.com. Include the diagnostics below, but remove private screen content and secrets first.
support@textractocr.comScreen Recording and Input Monitoring
Open System Settings → Privacy & Security, then enable Textract OCR under Screen Recording and Input Monitoring. After changing either permission, quit and reopen the app. Textract uses them only for user-initiated capture and the global shortcut.
- If Textract is missing from the list, start a capture once so macOS can show the permission prompt.
- If a granted permission is not detected, toggle it off and on, then relaunch Textract.
Selection does not start or capture the right area
Try starting capture from the menu-bar icon. If that works, another app may be using the same global shortcut; choose a different shortcut in Settings. Drag on the display you want to capture and press Escape to cancel a selection.
- Keep Textract running in the menu bar.
- On multi-display setups, confirm the pointer is on the intended display before dragging.
- Restart the app after display or permission changes.
Translation does not appear
Enable automatic translation and choose a target language in Settings → Translation. Translation appears only when the detected source differs from the target and macOS supports the language pair.
- Install any language resources requested by macOS.
- Test with a clear sentence and confirm recognition succeeds first.
- Translation uses Apple Translation on your Mac; no text is sent to the Textract subscription backend.
Local model download or Deep recognition fails
Open the model controls in Recognition settings and retry the download on a stable connection. Check available disk space and keep the app open until verification finishes. Model files come from Hugging Face, but recognition runs locally after installation.
- Remove a failed or partial model from the management sheet, then install it again.
- Corporate firewalls or filters may need to permit Hugging Face downloads.
- Fast recognition remains available without the optional model.
Photos or PDFs do not convert to Markdown
In Convert to Markdown, choose supported images or PDFs and an output location you can write to. Scans and complex pages may require the local model and more processing time.
- Try one file first to isolate a damaged or password-protected PDF.
- Keep enough free disk space for the model, temporary work, and exported Markdown.
- If access to a folder changed, choose the input or export location again.
Restore Purchase or subscription status
Open Settings → Subscription and choose Restore Purchase. Sign in to the same Apple Account used for the purchase and keep the Mac online while StoreKit and the Textract subscription service refresh the entitlement.
- Confirm the subscription is active in Apple’s subscription management page.
- If local StoreKit shows the purchase but Textract remains locked, relaunch and try Restore Purchase again before contacting support.
Cancel a subscription or request a refund
Apple handles billing, cancellation, and refunds. Cancel or change renewal from Apple’s Manage Subscriptions page. To request a refund or report a billing problem, use reportaproblem.apple.com. Textract cannot issue App Store refunds directly.
What to include in a diagnostic email
A concise report helps us reproduce the issue:
- Textract version and macOS version.
- Mac model and Apple silicon or Intel processor.
- The feature and recognition mode you were using.
- Exact steps, expected result, actual result, and any visible error message.
- Whether the problem persists after relaunching and after checking permissions.
